At first I wanted a 4WD, but after driving around 2 states for 7 months, it performed great. No problems as of yet!

My second new Ford. Bought it in June of 2000, and still drive it every day. Needs only routine maintenance, and has been absolutely wonderful. The little annoying things scarcely ruin my overall satisfaction in ownership. (e.g.: The center console vinyl fell apart after about a year.) Lots of room inside. (Fit 6 bicycles and 4 people) 4-wheel-drive is powerful, if a little clunky at lower speeds when using 4-Hi, but hardly an issue as its rarely required as such. Im very happy with my truck.

Even thought the look havent change much in a couple of year the small changes that had been made are nice. Ford have put more into the Quality the expolorer which I myself love I would like to have more Quality then added looks. The wider base and a more bold look it very nice. If you have child I highly recommed that you get a four door not just in a SUV but in any car you buy its always hard to put someone in the backseat of any car.

After 46000 miles and 3 years I have had to have over $1200 in repairs not to mention dumping a $1000 a year into it every year since Ive had it. It just hasnt held up. While the exterior looks great, the engine is lacking, a lot of misfires and sluggish performance, and suspension problems now. Its a nice vehicle, the ride is fine, interior quality is ok, the build quality just hasnt held up well.

I bought this truck new in June of 2001. Since that time I have logged 158000 miles in it and it is still going strong and still used as a daily driver. I have changed the brake pads, tires, and a fuel sensor and of course have kept my oil changed every 3500 miles.

I was cruising through one on the weekend, and the Explorer Sport caught my eye. Not to mention, I loved the two door look and it was black! Ive always wanted a black vehicle. Another bonus, it had a sunroof, luggage rack and running boards. I dont think I couldve asked for anything else. It had $10,900 on the windshield and I got it for $9,400 with only 56K on it. I got a pretty good deal. Anyway, its not mid-July and I hate the gas mileage. Ive already replaced the air intake control valve ($225 w/ labor) and now it clicks loudly when I turn my wheels. Someone mentioned the hub bearings. I think my next car will be a Honda, Nissan or Toyota. Thats what I wanted originally.

  • FIRST FORD FOR ME - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport

This is my first Ford Vehicle. I was very surprised that Edmunds gave this vehicle a bad review. I had a blazer before this one. It has GREAT pickup and off road capability. I took through 10 inches of mud with no problem. In fact, I pulled out a Nissan Xterra that was stuck. The gas mileage is ok for a SUV; the back end does slip or kick out sometimes. It made me nervous at first but this truck is both very safe and FUN to drive. I get a lot of looks in it when it is all waxed up. Be sure to haggle when you buy it. I shopped around a lot and Dollar for Dollar this was the best buy. It is a great truck. I used to HATE Fords. But this one is a keeper.

  • Best car Ive ever owned! - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

I bought my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 2-door used in 2003 for $14k, with 25k miles on it. I now have 120k miles on it after 8 years of owning it and have decided it is time to start researching for something new. I havent had ANY problems with this vehicle. Ive had to do regular maintenance and Im just now replacing the brakes that went out this week. This has been a fantastic vehicle and I will be sad to trade it in. I think it would be a great car for a high school student learning how to drive. I did have to replace the cd player, as it stopped working.

This has been a wonderful SUV. I just had a wreck in it where I hydroplaned on the Interstate and hit the concrete wall divider. My wife and I were unharmed and the car held up great!

I bought my ford with 45k miles and owned it about 8 years now. At 250k miles replaced transmission well worth it I am over 300k miles and still going strong. This suv has been all over this state with school activities football , ffa and etrc. as well on manay of hunting trips it has been used for everything you can think of. It still drives 5 miles of dirt road and 70 miles a day to work. This suv has been very good to us wish I could aford to buy another one. Thank you
